Gastric bypass gives couple 'do over' of obese years Savannah Morning News

Larry and Beth Tipton had tried nearly every diet they could think of. Within a few weeks they always fell off the wagon.

And each time they did, it seemed they gained back all the weight they had lost and then some.

By 2008, the Pooler couple was morbidly obese.

"I literally believed I was dying," said Larry Tipton. "I had high blood pressure, and my knees were hurting."

So when they learned that Larry's health insurance would start covering gastric bypass surgery, they both jumped at the opportunity to get the weight off fast.

Sixteen months after their surgeries, the Tiptons have lost a total 250 pounds.

The couple chronicled their weight loss journey on YouTube, where they discovered an online community of people sharing struggles only people who have weight-loss surgery understand.

"I knew I was going to get thin and get healthy," Beth shared in one of the Tiptons' 29 YouTube videos. "But I didn't know, couldn't have known, how emotional this ride was going to be."
