Health secretary credits Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett for diet initiative NewsOK.com

Sebelius spoke Friday at the U.S. Conference of Mayors , being held at the Cox Convention Center , about a new twist on Michelle Obama's Let's Move health initiative, announced last year. Sebelius and Cornett asked the mayors attending the conference to sign up to become Let's Move Cities and Towns.

Cornett became the first mayor to sign up for the program, which asks cities to take action on at least one of four public health issues: helping parents make better health choices for their families, creating healthy schools, providing access to healthy and affordable food or promoting physical activity.

Obama did not attend the conference, but she recorded a video message which played during Friday's program promoting the Let's Move initiative and touting Cornett as a leader on the issue.

Sebelius also praised Cornett, calling him "an inspiration.” After losing weight himself, Cornett began an effort to get city residents to register on a website and track their weight loss, with the goal of losing a million pounds. So far, those registered on the site have lost more than 500,000 pounds.
